Duration: The MDiv is a one-year, full-time programme
The Master of Divinity is a one-year full-time programme that builds on an undergraduate qualification in Theology and introduces the student to the practice of post-graduate research. It offers the possibility of specialisation in Biblical Theology, Canon Law, Ecumenical Theology, Patristic Theology, Liturgical Theology, Moral Theology, Pastoral Theology, Spirituality, or Systematic Theology.
Access, Transfer and Progression Routes
Applicants for this programme need to• have a certificate of matriculation in an Irish university or its equivalent;
• have completed a 2-year programme in Philosophy;
• have received a second class honours in a 3-year programme in Theology equivalent to the Milltown Bachelor of Divinity programme, or an Baccalaureate (Honours) in Theology;
• must meet any language or other requirements stipulated in the Milltown Regulations.
The programme begins in late September each year and the closing date for applications is 1 July. Applications may be made directly to the Milltown Institute by completing an application form and providing the required documentation. Admission to the programme is subject to an interview. Late applications will be considered up until the meeting of the Admissions Committee in early September each year.
Modules in Programme
The coursework has a total weighting of 40 credits and must be taken in at least two of the following five areas:• Sacred Scripture
• Systematic, liturgical and historical theology
• Spirituality
• Practical theology (moral theology and canon law)
• Pastoral theology
Mode of Delivery of Programme
The programme comprises two constitutive elements:• Prescribed coursework
• Research essay of approximately 10,000 words.
