GOVERNMENT OF IRELAND RESEARCH SCHEMES:
IRISH RESEARCH COUNCIL FOR THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Scholarships of the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences
(IRCHSS - Postgraduate Scholarship) Scholarships are valued at up to €16,000 per annum. They will be awarded initially for one year, but subject to terms and conditions, are renewable for up to two additional years. Fees will also be covered for the period of the Scholarship. Applicants must already be, or will be during the academic year 2008/2009, registered in a recognised higher education institution as full-time post-graduate research students pursuing degrees by major thesis. Those who are undertaking taught programmes, or degrees where a thesis is a minor part of the programme, are not eligible.

ANNUAL FULBRIGHT AWARDS PROGRAMME
The Annual Fulbright Awards Programme enables postgraduate students and scholars / professionals to undertake study,research or lecturing at a college in the United States.
• Applicants must be in a position to outline a clearly defined course of study or research and must obtain their own placements in the US.
• All Fulbright awards are for one year. However, students pursuing postgraduate degrees will normally retain their Fulbright visa status in the US for the duration of their studies. Each year around eighteen Irish students and scholars and twelve US Students and scholars take part in this Programme.
Awards are usually advertised in early October with a closing date of in mid-November for awards tenable in thefollowing academic year.For more information

IRISH COUNCIL FOR OVERSEAS STUDENTS – FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME
ICOS administers Irish Government-funded and other official Study Fellowship Programmes, and provides academic, administrative and practical support services to Study Fellows in Ireland and the UK.• ICOS’s responsibilities for Fellowship programmes include: academic and training placement; financial administration; travel and immigration arrangements; arrival, reception and orientation services; academic monitoring and reporting to donors; welfare, problem-solving and emergency help; organisation of social and cultural events.
• Irish Government Fellowships: ICOS administers Study Fellowships under the Development Cooperation Ireland Programme for individuals selected from programme countries in Africa, and from some countries in Asia. Awards are mainly for postgraduate study in the fields of development studies, agriculture and rural development, business and management, education and health-related disciplines.
• Other official Fellowship Programmes: ICOS has many years of experience in the administration and support of Fellowship programmes for the EU Commission, United Nations and United Nations University, and other official sponsors.
• Contract servicing: ICOS is available to make programme arrangements with third level colleges, training institutions and sponsors for the provision of administrative and support services to specific groups of international students and trainees.
O’REILLY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
Details of the eleventh O’Reilly Foundation Scholarship Programme, for study from the academic year 2009-2010, will be announced on the web-site (www.oreillyfoundation.ie) during 2008. Applications are normally submitted before early November of the year for which the application is made. The O'Reilly Foundation supports a programme of scholarships to provide world-class educational opportunities for young Irish scholars.The Foundation sponsors scholars to undertake postgraduate education in their chosen field and in an institution or university of their choice. O'Reilly Scholars are individuals who have an excellent academic record and have demonstrated leadership qualities, as well as the potential and desire to make a significant contribution to the future of Ireland.
