The Jesuit Library at Milltown
Since the Schools of Philosophy and Theology were established at Milltown Park in the 1880's the Irish Jesuits have gathered publications for their house of studies. Since 1938 this material has been housed in an attractive purpose-built library, the Jesuit Library.
The Jesuit Library, which is one of the finest theology libraries in Ireland, is at the disposal of the staff and students of the Milltown Institute. The Library contains 137,000 volumes covering theology, philosophy, spirituality, scripture, Church history, Jesuit history and biography, the humanities and Irish affairs.
The library provides an environment conducive to quiet study. The Reference Room contains a superb range of reference material and is a very pleasant study area.
All library holdings have been added to the computerised catalogue which is available at www.jesuitlibrary.ie.

Students of the college are helped to make best use of the library through the library tour given to each class at the beginning of the academic year, and through one-to-one guidance given on demand throughout the year. A user leaflet is available.
Students are encouraged to become independent learners through instruction from library staff on use of the library catalogue, reference works, periodicals and the Internet. The computer catalogue is user-friendly and is accessible from three terminals on the library's ground floor and one on the first floor. There are two photocopiers in the library area. Students purchase photocopying cards from a card dispenser in the library area.
Borrowing
Registered students of Milltown Institute may borrow books. Undergraduates may borrow 4 books; post-graduates may borrow 8 books.
